Urban Educ8r: A Wickerblog
This weblog is dedicated primarily to the discussion of Education issues and policies, as well as to chronicling the author's experiences as an inner-city school teacher. These days, the education discussion is too much in the hands of ignorant politicians merely doing what they need to gain re-election, and not enough in the hands of knowledgable professionals with first hand experience.

Political Correctness Goes Conservative!

Is this woman on crack? And I'm afraid I voted for her. Her record has been alright up to this point. But this is absurd. Remove the term "evolution" from the state curriculum. Has it never become obvious throughout the ages that when you try to "protect" someone, especially adolescents, from something by hiding it from them, they ultimately end up rebelling against you. Why would censuring a word ever be considered sound educational practice? Heck, this is an assault on the English language, not merely on science and honest education.  And sure, include the teaching of what is called creation science alongside evolutionary theory, but for God's sake, don't resort to, well, mind-control attempts. This has Big Brother written all over it. Would anyone consider it plausible that we might give the kids adequate information on the subject and let them--dare I say--think for themselves??? Education is teaching people to think, not what to think.
