Urban Educ8r: A Wickerblog
This weblog is dedicated primarily to the discussion of Education issues and policies, as well as to chronicling the author's experiences as an inner-city school teacher. These days, the education discussion is too much in the hands of ignorant politicians merely doing what they need to gain re-election, and not enough in the hands of knowledgable professionals with first hand experience.

You know I've got time on my hands when I sit down, turn on the TV and watch the Board meeting of the Atlanta Board of Education. It is a little interesting to see what's going on up at the top. After all it does have an effect on my job.

As I turned it on, I heard the superintendent saying something about being committed to being good stewards of the taxpayer's money, but missed to what she was referring. Possibly she had been addressing the technology spending fiasco. I was bummed I missed it. Then she went on to report on the approval of a motion to eliminate a number excess food-service and custodial jobs. That's hard to hear, but I understand that it is a part of life. The superintendent did mention that they would work work closely with those being let go in terms of providing retirement packages as well as holding a job fair in conjunction with other agencies. That sounded good.
