Disappointing Performances at Chinese Grand Prix

I stayed up last night to watch the Chinese Grand Prix live -- it started at 2 am local time. The race itself was moderately entertaining and the facility seemed spectacular.

Villeneuve was not. He seemed rather ordinary. I know there are excuses or reasons (not much time in this car and not much time in any car for almost a year). But he obviously failed in his personally stated(and Renault's announced) goal of beating Sato and helping Renault get back into the number 2 spot in the constructor's championship and was nowhere near Alonso in performance.

The only perfomance more pedestrian was that of Schumacher -- a weekend of personal and team failures from his mistake in qualifying to a badly chosen strategy of fueling for fewer stops in the pit lane at the race beginning, his spin during the race and his optimistic passing of Klien with its collision and ending of Klien's race. The ultimate indignity was being lapped by the leaders shows that he is somewhat human I guess. Maybe I was thinking he was better than he actually is after his brilliant recovery last race to finish second.
