I have noted three interesting digital photography announcements recently.
Two are new cameras -the Panasonic FZ30, and the Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D. The Panasonic camera is an update (to 8 megapixel, twist LCD and more manual control) of the current FZ20, a well liked high end high zoom camera with image stabilization and a big lens. The Maxxum 5D is the scaled down version of the 7D(the only digital SLR with image stabilization built into the body). Both are significant in my mind because it brings them in competition with each other in an area I think is the future of prosumer(and probably low end consumer as well) -- cameras with image stabilization features built in. At least it looks like they will be in competition. It seems based on Amazon that the 5D will retail for $900(US) with basic lens. The only pricing I have seen mentioned for the FZ30 is $950 as the probable MSRP. Seems a tad high -- maybe the street price will be a lot lower (B&H sells the current FZ20 for $500).
The other announcement is that Konica-Minolta and Sony have entered into an agreement to do joint development of DSLR's. It is not totally clear what this means and when it will result in product though.
