Lijit Search

Referrer Spam

I am starting to see referrer spam (from online gambling sites it seems) in the referrer logs for the Courses by Wire corporate weblog (fortunately I don't publish the logs so the spam is not having its intended effect -- I assume to create a link to the site to lift search engine rankings). Looking through public referrer logs like for this weblog and for high traffic blogs with public referrer logs like Scoble, Crooks and Liars, Roland Piquepaille's Technology Trends I don't see any of the same spam.

I wonder what the difference is?

Technorati and Ping-o-Matic

So what is with these services?

More than 50% of the time I get this response for searches at Technorati:

Sorry, we couldn't complete your search because we're experiencing a high volume of requests right now. Please try again in a minute or add this search to your watchlist to track conversation.

And Ping-o-Matic seems totally baked (and has been for the last couple of days) -- ping submissions seem to go off to the ozone and stats are "disabled".
