Lijit Search

Gada.be or Dontne.ed?

I have been trying to figure out what this is and why people are gushing over it.

My first experience -- I couldn't get to the site, then it threw an exception, anything I typed in took 5 minutes to return (admittedly this may be because everyone is gushing over it).

My quick comments:

  • what is with the url? -- seems childish, overly cute
  • the way it works seems like a perversion of the DNS system(it creates a dns entry for every search performed?) -- no wonder it is so slow -- how can this possibly scale?
  • the ads seem to combine Pirillo's ads and Google's ads on the same page -- isn't that a no no in Google's Adsense TOS?
  • the whole front end seems unintelligible -- like beat poetry or something

Maybe there is something useful there under the facade but I'll be damned if I could see it or get to it. I must be getting old and curmudgeonly.

Personally I think this is a "dontne.ed" rather than a "gada.be".
