Google Web Accelerator

What is with the Google Web Accelerator ? It seems to provide very little "acceleration". By its own figures it "saved" 3 minutes or so on my cable connection over half a day or so of heavy web use. I didn't notice any real change or advantage.

Not only that but it completely screwed up my browser -- lots of sites (including most Google sites) were getting "server not found" errors. On our corporate site (www.coursesbywire.com ) it screwed up the menu system. Turning off the accelerator for that site failed to do anything -- certainly it didn't stop the site from failing. Google's "beta support" responded with a kiss off email to enquiries.

I eventually uninstalled it -- still no relief -- sites still "server not found". After rebooting seems finally got back to normal. This is the second piece of crap (the Google desktop search was a complete bust on my system as well) that I have tried from Google.

Is Google just spread too thin? Has the rot and evil begun?
