Microsoft announced today a whole raft of executive changes and realignments, the most significant of which seems to be that Jim Allchin will retire at the end of the 2006.
Truly the end of an era at Microsoft.

It is difficult to tell whether Jim Allchin deciding to retire produced a domino effect that triggered the reorganization or if his retirement is in response to the reorganization.
