Bugs, Branches and Backports

An anonymous Oracle employee known only as 27761 on JDeveloper's OTN forum (it's a bit broken at the moment), posted a useful description of how we handle bug fixes for the various releases of JDeveloper that are currently supported and planned.

If you have a support contract with Oracle, you can use metalink to raise technical assistance requests (TARs), which support professionals will investigate thoroughly before raising bugs against product development. You can also use metalink to request that fixes be backported to maintainence releases of older versions like 9.0.3 and 9.0.4. Finally, metalink provides access to a portion of the internal bug database we use at Oracle, so you can use it to keep an eye on how bugs are progressing.

We like getting bug reports on the forum too, especially if they're detailed and specific :)
