Countdown to 10g

Well... we've frozen for 10g production now. It'll still probably be a while until the thing goes out the door and work still continues on some areas of the product, but most of the development effort of the IDE, modeling, and version control support is shifting to the next major release. We've got a huge number of great ideas for "the release tentatively known as 10.0.3". As they get implemented, I'll continue to post some "spoilers" about the kind of things you can expect.

Interestingly, we're fully moving our internal version control over to a system based on Oracle SCM for the next release of the product. This is a huge step forward. Personally, I'm encouraged by the fact that a sticky question I've been asked in the past by customers about which system we use ourselves will, in future, be much easier to answer. It will be a relief to have an answer to this that's a bit more ah... politically correct ;)

With 10g production on the horizon, I've been preparing some notes about new features we've added to version control support since the preview release. There's a surprisingly large amount of new functionality in this area since the preview. Since team development features quite often just get covered by a single bullet in the "what's new" release documentation, I'm planning to put an article up on the blog drilling down into all of these new features with screenshots closer to the release of 10g. In the meantime (and in the interests of finding something... anything... as a topic for blogging), I'm going to start posting digests of the features every few days, starting tomorrow with some of the new CVS features.
