AP has also picked up the earthquake prediction story (we had it on Nippon Goro Goro last Friday) based on the Kushida theory

Kyodo is now running a brief report on its English-language wire but cannot find it on its Japanese wire.

Japanese media seems quite reluctant to report on the Kushida prediction as he is not considered a "real" scientist and the government agencies continue to contend there is no way to accurately predict earthquakes.

The regulatory system for the medical field in Japan is a joke. This story is a perfect example of the Health & Welfare Ministry solely seeking to protect the status quo. Those bureaucrats want those plush jobs in industry when they retire (a practice known as amakudari). The problems with malpractice that are ignored by the Ministry should be a national scandal. Yet the Ministry chooses to launch an attack on a drug store chain that provides an on-call pharmacist after midnight by videophone so its stores can give out emergency medicine to sick children for free.
