Blix Says Iraq War Was Illegal, CBS NEWS.COM, 6 August 2003 " … as we all know, the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld Very well then. We're still fighting "somebody", Saddam is still at large, and the WMD has not been found. As Jay Rockefeller said: "Signs of a weapons program are very different than the stockpiles of biological and chemical weapons that were a certainty before the war,"  "We did not go to war to disrupt Saddam's weapons program, we went to disarm him." The media should ask the Republican administration this: Does there remain a threat from WMD in Iraq? They seem to be saying that the threat which drove us to war remains; it has not been neutralized? Is Saddam disarmed? Is Iraq disarmed? Who are we fighting? Where is the WMD? We went to war, without world concensus, without the UN, because the Republican administration said that Iraq was an imminent threat to the United States of America. Are we still at risk? Who are we fighting? Where is the WMD? We thought this was over in May! Why isn't it over? Has the Republican administration failed in achieving its war objective, just as it failed in its diplomatic preparations for war? Probably. Hans Blix was made out to be the village idiot by the Republican administration. Maybe he wasn't so dumb after all. "Speaking on Swedish Radio, Blix questioned whether Saddam Hussein posed an immediate threat to his neighbors or to the United States, and said the Bush administration had other reasons to invade besides destroying alleged weapons of mass destruction." "He (Blix) said the U.S. also needed to show what he calls "striking power" following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks." Well, maybe not.
