Damn fine race, that was.
The odds on Giacomo winning the 131st Run For the Roses was 50-1 at Churchill Downs. But, because I have my own paramutual software the odds at our annual party are built on bets made by the folks in attendance. My odds on Giacomo were 82-1.
My son Jesse had two dollars on the longshot's nose and is a very happy guy, me?... not so much. I don't think I have ever won any money at my own party. But we sure had a great time.
I didn't count, but it felt like around 100 friends and neighbors were hereabouts. We were blogger blessed again this year with appearances by neighborhood friend/bloggers Louisa, Wharton, and Grunkle Guru. Others bloggers came, too. Don and Nancy, Gr8ful Coach, Gate City, Roch, Jay, and the ever popular Mr. Sun may have been here, but we are not sure. The Shu made a drive by appearance but couldn't stay. Some groundwork was laid for the upcoming HoggFest during ad hoc meetings and through the pre-event sale of raffle tickets. It is really shaping up.
This party was different than years past in that the preparations were of adopted by many of our wonderful neighbors. Starting about 8:00a yesterday the house was a flurry of friends who were busy transforming the Hoggard mansion from a home to party place. Thanks to all, we love you. Come on back for cleanup.
Put it on your calendar for next year. The First Saturday In May.
