World Wide Wine Blogging Wednesday – Episode 1

Well, it wasn’t Wednesday, it wasn’t red and it wasn’t cheap.  Can I still participate?!

I can’t believe I missed the first ever World Wide Wine Blogging event, hosted by Lenn over at Lenndevours.  Well, at least I was drinking to contribute to something!

Actually, truth be told, I was drinking White Wine on Wednesday with Miss Sharon.  Miss Sharon only drinks White… and she does it soooo well!  Enjoying a gorgeous summer evening pool side, we sipped her 2002 Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay (Retails for approximately $24.99), it was as fine as the evening, and the company.  The write up at K&L Wine Merchants calls it a "winner", super ripe with plenty of BIG tropical fruit flavors and toasty oak.  A rich, buttery finish makes this one of the most opulent (and justly popular) chardonnays in our store.  What they fail to point out though is that this wine is splendidly balanced.

Medium to full bodied for a chard, the thing I enjoyed most about this wine was that it was so heavy with oak and so thick with butter that the subtle nuance of pineapple, pear and papaya were lost.  They were right there up front on the nose and the palate.

As for Thursday night…

Same story.  White Wine.  This time following a round of massages, some of my friends and I got lost in a bottle of 2002 Montes Alpha Chardonnay, from Chile.  I’ve written about Montes Wines before.  I adore them.  The range has something for every taste and budget – the Alpha is mid-range about $12.99 to 18.99 depending on the vintage.  And, winemaker Aurelio Montes is true to his varietal, offering the best of whatever the grape can offer.  The 2002 is a lighter styled chard, with a mineral and steeliness to it, which supporting the flavors of peach, apple and pear, and a hint of vanilla makes this a delicious, easy drinking but elegant Chardonnay.

Sorry Lenn for the late post! Sorry for not playing by the rules! I promise to do better next time… but, you know what they say… why wait for a blog burning event to open a bottle of wine! (they do say that, don’t they?!?!?)

Stay tuned for the October Wine Wednesday event, and check out IMBB#8 -- Lift your Spirits High!   Geez.  With all this cooking with Wine and Spirits... Wine Wednesdays...  we're soon gonna need to wrap in some diet and detox blogs too!!!
