I’m back from house- and dog-sitting. Amy called tonight and said they had a great time in Tuscany. I thought their 1778-built house was old, but the villa they stayed at in Collodi (birthplace of Pinocchio!) was first built in the 1200s – built into the side of a hill.

They took a trip in to Florence one day – an hour by train. She has something for me from Florence, she says. She has good taste so I’m sure whatever it is it’s nice. She thanked me again for taking care of things while they were away, is sending back the money I left for chipping a ceramic bowl of hers while washing it in their porcelain sink. The dog is now spoiled! I guess I gave her more attention than she normally gets. She’s usually left out in the yard all day, but I let her stay in with me because I liked the company.

Did I mention my own two dogs are buried in their yard? I live in a condo, so Amy’s yard seemed the best place for them. The sun came up every morning right over their graves when I was staying there. In the spring, the daffodils I planted over Molly 3 years ago November (Amy calls them “Molly-dils”) will be coming up, along with the Siberian lilies I planted over Silke this past May (“Silka-lilies”). Good yard for dogs.
