Heritage House Closes
Judi Dunkel Headrick called my attention to a story
in the Journal-Register on the June 1 closing of Heritage House, a
buffet-style restaurant on South Sixth Street that first began serving
smorgasbord to the Springfield area in 1965.
During its 38+ years of operation, Heritage House had the same
owner-operators, the Taft family. The restaurant was a weekly meeting
place for members of Rotary, and many generations of local folk held
wedding and anniversary receptions there.
Now it's gone, along with the Georgian, the Lake Club, the Black Angus,
and the Mill. At least we still have Saputo Twins Corner (8th and
Monroe) and Steak 'n Shake (multiple locations) as surviving eateries.
