Tony Smith

Judy Vicars Van Hagen sends me the sad news that Tony Smith died on Monday, June 7, 2004. I have posted the obituary on the class web site; click on Directory and then In Memoriam to find the link.

Named James Anthony Smith at birth, Tony attended West Grand and Butler grade schools. During our SHS years, he drove a sporty cloth-top Jeep, perhaps the coolest car parked diagonally in front of the high school. I think the Jeep was a pale color, either white or beige.

Tony earned a degree at Westminster College in Missouri, served in the US Army during the Vietnam era, and for 37 years he and his father ran Illinois Insect Control. He was an avid hunter and fisher and a long-time member of Rotary and the Hope Presbyterian church. Survivors include his wife, Linda Holmquist Smith, three children, and four grandchildren.

Friends may send cards and notes to Linda at 3020 Turning Mill Road, Springfield, Illinois, 62704.
