Ford Van Hagen

Dr. Ford Van Hagen, husband of Judy Vicars Van Hagen, died at home on Saturday evening, Sep 25, 2004. He put up a brave struggle against cancer for over eight years.

A memorial to Ford, written by his family, appears online.

Ford was a graduate of Culver Academy, Princeton University, and Northwestern University, where he received his MD. He lived in Springfield since 1962 and married Judy on Sep 12, 1964. They marked their 40th anniversary this month.

Ford practiced surgery for 41 years, until retirement in 2003. He also taught in medical schools and directed surgery departments in several hospitals in the Springfield area.

A talented jazz pianist, Ford founded a band called Los Medicos Locos and performed often at "Medical Madness" variety shows to raise funds for the Friends of Memorial Hospital.

The memorial service is Thursday, September 30 at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 815 South 2nd Street, in Springfield.

Visitation is from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, with a memorial service to follow at 6:30 pm and coffee afterwards.

Burial will be on Saturday, October 2 at 11 am at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington, IL. Friends in the Chicago area are welcome to attend.
