I have just returned from the public meeting at Silverstream school. It is obvious that there is a lot of emotion about the proposed changes in the community. It is also obvious that the benefits of small schools are not well known! So I will simply quote Mary Anne Raywid that these benefits "we have confirmed with a clarity and at a level of confidence rare in the annals of education research".

Many parents are doing independent research, and it was suggested that the statistics the Education Ministry are basing their plans on, are, at best, flawed. I would be interested to know if any impact assessment has been done for the proposed model. If one has been done, I would like to know why it was not released with the model. Having it available would have saved an awful lot of the debates that arose!
