Another Round of Reviews?

We have found a discussion paper on the Ministry of Education website whereby Trevor Mallard is planning to change the laws for integrated and church schools so that they can be subjected to the network review process as well. Further, he wants to withdraw their ability to appoint/veto staff members. The discussion process ends at the end of this month. This means that the schools in Upper Hutt may be hit with another network review when the integrated schools are added to the mix. This will most likely have a bigger impact on the secondary schools than on the primary schools. But if this is the way forward, surely the Upper Hutt should delay any further review untill the integrated schools are included. You can find the paper at:

Enough!

There is now going to be a change of focus. Enough of the complaints! Enough of the research findings! Over the next few days I intend to present the proposed model for Upper Hutt. The idea is that we, working collectively as a community, can create a thorough rebuttal of the model. If time permits we may even be able to create our own submission with an alternative model that will meet the educational needs of Upper Hutt. Something that existing model totally fails to address.

To facilitate this I have created a Yahoo Group that will allow discussion of the topic, and dissemination of any relevant news. Sign up by entering your e-mail address in the box on the right and clicking on the "Join Now Button".

The Yahoo Group allows us to:

  • put up a calendar of events
  • share files
  • run chat groups
  • share links and references
  • create and run polls

So join us, and see what we can do together!
