Katrina

Last night, on the radio I heard an interview with an Australian journalist. The interview was about the several Australians he rescued whilst reporting on Katrina. What were the heroic deeds that he performed to do this? Every morning he got into his car and drove into New Orleans. During the day he would pack into his vehicle any Australians that he found. At the end of the day he simply drove them out of New Orleans.

According to him, (this truly boggles my simple mind) the highway that connects the New Orleans convention centre to the rest of the United States is intact and above water. He was simply doing day trips into and out of the disaster area, using his credentials as a journalist to get in and out of the zone.

So from the very day after the storm anyone with a will to do it could have driven food and medicine down that road to the starving poor at the end of it. Gosh, yes, I suppose the rest of the world may be starting to see the USA government in an unfavourable light.
