Bret lives...

...for a bit longer than expected.  At 4 PM CDT, the center of Tropical Depression Bret was 55 miles southwest of Tampico, Mexico and moving to the northwest at 12 mph. Winds are down to 30 mph and pressure is up to 1007 mb.  Bret will bring heavy rain and may cause landslides as he travels through Mexico

Bret still has a respectable appearance on satellite, which indicates how well organized the storm was.  It would have easily made hurricane had it been given just a bit more time and space.

Tropical Storm Bret goes ashore

Mysteriously lost my internet connection last night and did not recover it until a short while ago, so I missed Bret's final hours at sea.

At 7 AM CDT, Bret was near 20.8N 97.4W, near Tampico, Mexico.  Winds and pressure remain 40 miles per hour and 1005 millibars, respectively.  Movement is to the west-northwest at 10 mph, which brings Bret ashore.

Fortunately for the forecasters, Bret stayed on course more or less and didn't get any funny ideas about stalling and turning to sea.
