EPA FOIA Caselog Offers Hundreds of Stories

Journalists are curious -- others are nosy. The list of FOIA requests from EPA offers a fascinating picture of just who is exploiting what information at the agency. (Hint: lawyers, lobbyists, and businesses outstrip journalists by a mile.) A number of recent environmental stories in the national media started as FOIA requests on this list. What have your competitors been up to? Check it out.

Thanks to inveterate FOIA requester Michael Ravnitzky for getting these and making them available. He has posted full EPA caselogs for FY 2000-2003, as well as caselogs for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, and other agencies, on the site of thememoryhole.org. For those short of time, he has also culled a Partial List of the more interesting entries for 2003.
