Wyoming BLM Locks Up Inspection, Enforcement Documents
Wyoming offices of the Bureau of Land Management shut off public access to all oil and gas inspection and enforcement records in mid-November. The action came in response to an embarrassing Nov. 5, 2003, story in the Gillette News-Record depicting the problem of "orphan" wells, which are abandoned, semi-abandoned, or of uncertain ownership. Such wells may often be in disrepair, leaking oil or toxic hydrogen sulfide, and BLM enforcement efforts often fail to clean them up. Full Story.
