Judge Sets June Deadline for Cheney Document Release
U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman ordered 7 federal agencies on April 1 to release more disputed documents related to development of the Bush administration's energy policy by Vice President Richard Cheney's task force. The documents are among some 140,000 sought in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by Judicial Watch and the National Resources Defense Council, of which some 40,000 have been disclosed to date. Friedman set a June 1 deadline for release a new batch of documents by the Energy Department, Interior Department, and other agencies covered by FOIA. Release of another set of documents, from the White House, which claims they are subject to executive privilege, will be decided by the Supreme Court.
