time for some serious hardware.

Yesterday was not a very good day. I decided to delve into yet another level of better podcast production tools and setup. Tested stuff for hours and of-course once Dave and I started to record a Trade Secrets podcast everything went to shit.

I still have the files from the recording, but the restore to a readable format is turning out to be a lot of trouble.

With the introduction of cheap mp3 recorders (almost all of the current generation of players have a line-in recording function) I'm considering keeping the production tools on the desktop, but moving the actual recording to an external hardware solution. All it takes is a wire from the headphone jack to the line-in on the mp3 recorder.

My data, in this case recorded audio, is just too important to allow the possibility of any data loss.

I bit the bullet and drove all around town(s) in search of some temporary solution for recording to mp3 externally from my computer. I got quite an education in what's available and it's all podcast ready! So I recorded an intro on the (low quality) memo-recorder function on my way home from the store.

The 'bic lighter' size mp3 recorder is damn handy. And because I'm recording from the headphone jack, it's feasible that I could record a podcast on almost any computer that is handy, or plug in my hi-quality microphone for podcasts on the go. Now for a battery powered mixer so I can mix in tunes from my iPod and I'm really set!

The show is 43 minutes long and comes in 19.7 megabytes of podtune filled fun :)
