Nathan determined to make amends

Geeling.info - GEELONG'S injured race walker Nathan Deakes is optimistic he'll be fit for the 50km event at the World Athletic Championships.

Deakes said from Helsinki last night his hamstring injury was ``coming along very well''.

``I had my first walk this morning and got through it pretty well. I'm fairly confident I should be right for Friday,'' he said.

Deakes is desperately keen to win a medal in the on Friday after missing the 20km race walk on Saturday.

``I walked an hour this morning, that's better than nothing considering I haven't done any race walking at all for the last two weeks,'' he said.
