Message from Martin Rush, acting UK Athletics Event Coach...
Record has gone to press, so here's some important news from Martin Rush that din't quite make the August issue:
'On behalf of UKAthletics, and personally, I would like to publically thank Martin Bell for his hard work and leadership of race walking in his time as National Potential Coach for Walks. Martin's contribution goes beyond his organisation of squads and management of teams and it will be in the long term development of a number of young athletes to international level, that will do most to show his contribution over the last few years.
As readers are aware UKAthletics and the home country Associations are currently involved in a restructuring process which directly impinges on the way events and event groups are managed in the UK. Until such time as the event groups and their management are finalised I have been asked to take on the role of acting National Event Coach, due to my professional position within UKA. This tenure is temporary until the formal structures/position is in place.
Recognising certain programmes need to be put in place before the autumn/winter I am currently drawing up a timetable of national event squads, preparation camps and team direction strategies. The specific aim of all these activities will be to drive standards of performance higher with a clear focus on Championship preparation and achievement. A national race programme will also be published with the aim of stimulating competition between athletes.
