Heavens, I've been "outed" as a l-l-l-liberal.

I was wondering if anyone actually read what I've been writing... I guess now I know. Kinda cool. Though I think of myself more as a "progressive" than a "liberal." Unlike George W. Bush who seems intent on building a bridge to the 20th century, I actually want to move our country forward and make it a visionary, a trend-setter, and a leader for the world in the decades to come. I want us to understand that the world is a fundamentally different place than it was 20 years ago, with a whole new set of problems and challenges. The United States can't be an anachronism in the 21st century. There is no time in the history of this great nation (and I mean that sincerely -- it is a great nation) where our government and society were prepared to tackle the challenges that we face today, and the conservatives are fundamentally wrong in believing that rolling back the clock will make things better for the American people.

And no, no one at MS gives me any grief about what I write here. Okay, I'll admit that once somebody told me that something I had written was a little juvenile and I should be more professional. Let's just say that my response to them was not exactly a shining example of their desired behavior modification. But no one at Microsoft has ever objected to the content of anything I've blogged.

I’m a big Doonesbury fan. I have the whole collection of books, going all the way back to the beginning 32 years ago. My daughters started reading them about a year ago, and are really into them now too. This evening, one of them brought a book of strips from 1971 over to me and showed me this strip.

I thought that was cute and funny. But then I read the next comic.

The irony alarms are starting to go off in my head (substitute “CIA misinformation” for “Vietnam papers”). But then here’s the real kicker.

John Kerry: the candidate with experience. Of course, the real irony is that this time around, B.D. (the heckler in the last strip) served in Iraq and lost a leg.
