Got a weekend at home. After the redeye from Las Vegas, driving home Friday morning noticed how much the leaves had changed. Monday afternoon I'll be on the way to Houston. One brief stop at the ARC forum on asset management, then off to the ISA Expo. I have so many requests for meetings there, even though it's a small show, that I can't meet everyone I'd like to (especially because almost no one will be there Thursday). But, if you see me, stop me and say hi.

Greg McMillan has a good post on modeling and control -- not to mention a "Guess Who" mention. He has an excellent book on the subject as well.

Dave Winer makes some good points on his blog about speakers at conferences. Are speakers from supplier companies or are they users and thought leaders? If an article in a trade journal is written by suppliers, is it editorial or advertorial? He was miffed that a conference wouldn't pay his expenses, but that it had suppliers speaking for "free." But that free meant that the supplier was gaining publicity for his products. So it was actually paid for by the supplier. So what did the paying attendees gain? Thoughts worth pondering for those of us who either put together conferences or pay to attend them.
