I've had several questions about traveling to Israel. Answer--no problem. We were quite safe there, and had a very good time. We toured the Galilee region for two days and Jerusalem for two days, then headed south to En Gedi and Masada before heading south for 6.5 hours to Egypt and Mt. Sinai in the Sinai Peninsula. We arrived Mt. Sinai region about 8 pm, had dinner and were in bed by 10 pm. Wake up call came at 1 am and by 2:30 we were beginning the 3-4 mile (one way) ascent of Mt. Sinai. Long walk up followed by a final 750 steps to the summit. My wife and I made it by 5:30 am. New pictures are on my flickr sets.

Actually, Egypt is different from Israel (of course), but we feel quite safe here, too. We drove from Mt. Sinai (after visiting a significant site for me, the oldest monastery, St. Katherines) to Cairo. I'm now in a hotel not far from the Pyramids. Delving into Egyptology for a couple of days.
