Leo Babauta did it again with another great ZenHabits idea--stop reading about doing things and start doing things. Big company cynics call it paralysis by analysis. Some of us are always reading about better ways to live but forget to live. When I was in grad school (majoring in political philosophy) we had a phrase "operationalize your eschaton." (eschatology is the study of end things, such as the end of the world, or Second Coming, or whatever) In other words, try to make your final goals real. I'm realizing some of my goals, working on others. How about you?

Steve Gillmor is a technology journalist I've read (and admired) for more than 20 years. But, he's a Twitter fanatic. He recently said that RSS is dead. How did I discover his thoughts? From his blog that I receive via RSS. The developer of RSS, Dave Winer, responds.

I've noticed increasingly that people are using Twitter like the old link blogs--that is, blogs where the content is a bunch of links to interesting sites. There's another trend however--especially among magazines and columnists, and the person who posts the Automation World Twitter feed is just as guilty--to use Twitter as a way to link back to their Web sites in a blatant attempt to drive Web site traffic. I think if you're going to link, use some of the 140 characters to tell me why I should hit the link. I'm not going to just hit all the links I see (practice safe surfing!).

The thing I like about RSS and my feed reader is that I can read the post in the reader. If the person is worried about loss of ad revenue by my not visiting their site (like those magazines and newspapers that only send the first 50 words then make you link back--note, I almost never hit the link, don't have time for visiting 100 individual Web sites) then send the ad via the RSS feed.

I don't think RSS is dead, because even the Twitter fanatics still blog--and send the feeds via RSS.
