When and Where Does This Real World Begin?
The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you're uncool.

Being old is being cool. [posted by ZelderBar] Notice how being retro is being cool? The 70s were cool, but they are getting a bit stayed, so now it's off to the 80s. Break out the skinny ties and pink shirts. Oh, sweet, nostalgia!

Carlson, do you own any of these? [posted by ZelderBar] Some people have too much time on their hands. Speaking of comic books, you know that July 3rd is free comic book day, right?

Tour de France starts Saturday [posted by Troy] Checkout this article about Armstrong's press conference today. Lance denies charges of drug use and talks about his chances over the next three weeks. Kim & I have been watching OLN's pre-Tour coverage. I also listened to Floyd Landis' NPR interview. The Tour is almost here!! Awesome.

Another great NPR story [posted by Troy] I've been doing a great deal of reading how the U.S. is shifting from an industrial economy to an information economy. Knowledge is capital, so people need to be continually learning. Problem is that higher education can't take many more students. This NPR story does a good job discussing the overloaded higher edu system. Currently, 60% of high school grads go on to some form of postsecondary education. Tuition is rising and state governments don't want to spend public money on education. It's becoming tougher for lower-middle class and lower class citizens to get access to higher education. Even community colleges are finding students who have the intellect to go to any college but can't afford to go anywhere else. In the past, less students went on to college, but students (with a little work) from all income levels could get access to college. This is becoming less true. Soon, we could have our most talented students left out due to money.
