And now this....
Two vitamin E forms appear to reduce prostate cancer risk

03/03/2005 - High blood levels of either alpha-tocopherol or gamma-tocopherol, both forms of vitamin E, appeared to halve the risk of prostate cancer in a new analysis of the ATBC trial, which supports earlier results showing that the vitamin protects against the cancer, writes Dominique Patton.

MORE VITAMIN E NONSENSE...THE ANTI-VITAMIN POLICE ARE TRYING  TOO HARD TO MAKE AN UNSUPPORTABLE CASE..
LOOOKY HERE..They're contradicting themselves from first graph to last.

Here's the headline and the lead paragraph...
Study Findings Pose More Questions, Few Answers for Vitamin E
Monday March 7, 2:35 pm ET  Health Benefit Associated with Multiple Physiological Systems

PARSIPPANY, N.J., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Results from the recently completed Women's Health Study (WHS), funded both by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and the National Cancer Institute, indicate that vitamin E supplementation provided neither benefit nor harm in relation to first cardiovascular events including heart attack, stroke and death from cardiovascular disease. Though vitamin E was not found to reduce the risk of first-time cardiovascular events, it was found unequivocally to be safe for consumption at the level of 600 IU every other day. Additional analyses are being done to determine whether any secondary benefits were seen from the supplementation.

And here's what the same report buries in the last graphs...

BACKGROUND ON VITAMIN E:

It is important to note that vitamin E has been shown to reduce the risk of other chronic diseases. A number of credible studies links consumption of vitamin E with eye health, immune function and cognitive health (and protective effects against Alzheimer's disease) and reduced risk of prostate cancer.

It is very difficult to obtain adequate levels of vitamin E from the diet, particularly in low-fat, heart healthy diets. Based on data from the 1994 and 1995 Continued Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals, Americans only consume 8.1 mg alpha-tocopherol equivalents (12 IU) of vitamin E each day.

In addition to a healthy lifestyle, well-balanced diet, reasonable exercise plan and not smoking, it would be prudent for health care professionals to continue to recommend a modest dose of a vitamin E supplement daily.

NEVER TRUST A DRUG COMPANY!

Merck Misled on Vaccines, Some Say
The firm supplied shots containing a mercury compound after saying it had halted its use.

Want to get REALLY mad? There are infants involved:

Drug maker Merck & Co. continued to supply infant vaccine containing a mercury-based preservative
for two years after declaring that it had eliminated the chemical.

In September 1999, amid rising concern about the risks of mercury in childhood vaccines, Merck announced that the Food and Drug Administration had approved a preservative-free version of its hepatitis B vaccine.
