I had a chance to visit the Apple Store in London on Thursday this week. We actually had an Edenbrook practise meeting in the city, to celebrate all the hard work everyone's been doing over the past year. The meeting consisted of a series of presentations followed by a meal and an afternoon and evening of alcoholic consumption - not really my thing at all so I ducked out after the meal.
The store is great - very Steve Jobs. It's got a wonderfully minimalist design with the lower floor of the building taken up with product displays of all the Apple products, as well as some great displays of just how much software is now available for the Mac - it's was something of an eye opener. Better yet they even had some of the machines configured towards specialist tasks like film editing and music composition, as well as an insanely over the top G5 tower running twin massive widescreen flat monitors.

Upstairs was home of the Genius zone, a neat idea if ever I saw one, where you can wander along with your Mac and pick the experts brains about problems you are having, either with the machine itself or with some of it's software. I had to wonder though just how many wise asses showed up over the week since they opened with a G4 Powerbook and the technical query of "Yeah - it's great, but how do I run software I actually need? You know, like Doom 3, or any other Windows game".
They also had a cool presentation area where throughout the day, every day of the week, experts would give presentations on some of the neat things they've done with their Macs.
All in all, pretty neat and very impressive, and yes I was tempted to buy a new Mac, but I value my genitals.
