I was just browsing news stories in my lunch and came across this one --> http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6982119/
Basically, it's about Lea Fastow, Andrew Fastow's (CFO of Enron) wife. Lea was a former treasurer of the company and found guilty on at least 6 counts conspiracy and tax fraud and is currently serving a one year term. It seems though that she thinks it's time to get out. She's been very good in prison apparently so the appeals court judge should release her early, after all she's been good.
As someone that worked at Enron, as someone that was there that last week, unpaid, consoling people whose entire lifes looked to be on the line in the face of lost pensions, lost salary, potentially lost homes, lost self esteem etc etc this is downright sick.
She's a criminal. her actions contributed to tens of thousands of people going through absolutely hell. Many of them still are. My personal point of view on this is that she was damn lucky to only get 1 year in jail since there's a whole chunk of people around the world that think she should do more like 5 to 10. Let her stay in jail. Let her serve her sentence. She broke the law. She helped ruin lives.
Lea - take your punishment with humility and grace and quit your bitching. You deserve far more than you got anyway.

This is brilliant.

A software engineer who had been robbed previously set up software on his home PC to record images with a webcam and email them out as soon as it detected movement in the room. The result: when some oik turned up to rob him again recently, the webcam capture beautiful high quality images of the chap and emailed them enabling the Police to identify and capture the toad in record time, with evidence that could not be refuted in court. This is great. I particularly loved the fact that some of the images were remarkably clear as the burglar appeared suspicious (more like confused) by the fact that the PC seemed to be busy doing something and ended up just staring at it for a while, while the webcam happily snapped away.
