The Power of Children Yesterday Joe had to travel to a community two hours from here for work. While he was there, he saw a woman who used to be the director at the day care that Alan and Iris went to. We haven't seen her in years. Above her desk was a framed drawing of all the staff at the day care, including her. It said 'Merry Christmas, Love Alan and Iris'. Apparently our kids drew it and gave it to her when they were 3 and 5.
The drawing shows Val with what appear to be very large thighs. She remembers mentioning that to Alan at the time, and his response was, "No, those aren't thighs Val. They're your arms....because you're the strongest."
She's kept the drawing over the years because she says whenever she was going through a difficult time she would look at those arms and be reminded that she had the strength to get through whatever she was faced with. What a good lesson abut the power and wisdom of children!
