Some in Idaho pushing for marijuana legalization A short AP story running at an Idaho TV station's web site yesterday says something called "The Liberty Lobby" is trying to get referedum questions on three municipal ballots. Municipal leaders don't appear to be supportive:
The story requires registration, but here's the meat:
An Idaho court will decide whether the Liberty Lobby can force three towns to hold a ballot referendum on legalizing marijuana.
The lobby filed ballot petitions with the city councils of Sun Valley, Ketchum and Hailey.
Hailey and Ketchum have taken no action on the request. Sun Valley is challenging the petition in court, contending no city can repeal state marijuana laws.
The Bellevue-based Liberty Lobby is asking 5th District Court to force the Sun Valley City Council to recognize the 22-name petition and put the issue to voters.
The proposed ordinances would make the sale of marijuana to adults legal but subject it to regulation. Montana passed a ballot initiatives this week to allow the use of medical marijuana
