One study that won't include marijuana hype

An Illinois county is going to carefully track the drug-related deaths of  young people with new software. Such data is supposed to determine whether a new drug court is working in Kane County, according to a story in the Daily Herald.

That five teens and young adults have overdosed and died in the Tri-Cities since the start of summer began may signal a renewed start to a deadly trend.

That at least four had had brushes with drug court may help save the lives of others.

Kane County Judge James Doyle, who created and oversees that drug court, has joined forces with Kane County Coroner Chuck West to study the latest deaths and how local leaders and law enforcement might put up roadblocks for others on paths to destruction.

First, if the kids who are having brushes with drug court are still dying, it makes one wonder about the effectiveness of drug courts, which have been repeatedly celebrated by the Daily Herald. Prohibition causes problems that no drug court can address.

Second, getting back to our main focus on marijuana decriminalization, I predict the most interesting thing about this study will be how marijuana never shows up in a fatality by itself. Yet marijuana is always the central focus of the drug war, and some thick congressman can't even stand to see other countries considering an absurdly faulty decrim plan.

U.S. Legislator too dumb to make connection

Drug WarRant beats me to the punch on this one, but suffice to say, U.S. Rep. Mark Souder seems out of touch with news from his neighboring state.

Souder might want to check out the past month's worth of posts here at decrimwatch. He might learn something (if that's possible).
