It's like the Peter Principle on crack and steroids

Scott at Grits for Breakfast is giving the mainstream media in Texas a run for their money this week.

Yesterday and today, he used public records to uncover startling details about corruption and incompetence in the Texas drug task force system.

The posts focus on one "gypsy cop" who can't control investigations, evidence, colleagues, or himself, but repeatedly rose through the ranks to leadership positions in narcotics enforcement. Indeed, he's still working in the field today.

It's not exactly news that corruption exists in a drug task force, but Scott manages to expose the astonishing degree to which it is institutionalized throughout the whole system.

I'll be watching the Dallas Morning News and Houston Chronicle to see if they ever catch up on this one.
