Could this be an ultimate expression of our fast-paced society? We have "Minute Lube" for our cars, so why not "Minute Medicine" for our ailments? What's next? We have "drive-through, no-touch" automatic car washes - why not drive-through, no-touch automatic medicine?
Folks, there is a sad truth: You get what you pay for. Every time.
If you are content to have a 15 minute (or less) visit that lets you walk out with a generic prescription, if you are happy with the concept of "a pill for every ill", if you are satisfied with medical diagnosis done on the basis of "best guess", if your greatest concern is that your medical care be cheap in terms of out-of-pocket and fully billable to your insurance, then this might just be the ticket for you.
We here at Dr. Myatt's Wellness Club think that this might be a little too hurried to be doing a proper job of treating patients (as opposed to treating illnesses - there is a big difference!) It is one thing to throw a broad-spectrum antibiotic at, say, a bronchitis (treat the illness) and quite another to fully listen to the presenting problem or complaint, do a thorough history-taking, make a proper physical examination, perform the proper diagnostic tests, analyze the results, compile a plan of treatment and care (including prevention,) discuss and negotiate that plan with the patient, and follow up with the patient to be sure that things are going as they should.
Yet I predict that this is going to be a wildly popularand incredibly profitable business. But we won't be adopting this business model at Dr. Myatt's Wellness Club. Our patients are too important to us. We'll continue looking after them the old way - taking our time, being thorough, making sure we get it right. Oddly enough, most of our patients tell us that they can get in touch with us, even from the other side of the country, with questions or concerns far faster than they can be seen by a local doctor. Maybe we're not so old-fashioned after all, just not willing to cut corners and take chances with your health.
You're going to get what you pay for, folks...
Cheers, Nurse Mark
