Truth, Lies and Weight Loss Diets
Experts Say Obesity Still a Health Risk
This article simply proves that there are "lies, damn lies, and statistics!" The CDC, having produced research that would have us believe that some 400,000 Americans die each year of obesity are now rethinking their numbers, saying that the figure is more like 25,000.
This has some groups overjoyed, and other groups, on the opposite end of the spectrum, enraged. The Center For Consumer Freedom ( www.consumerfreedom.com ), a group sponsored heavily by and representing the interests of the restaurant and food industries is crowing loudly about this - it has been their contention all along that Americans are not as fat as claimed, and that those who are overweight have become that way not by over eating, but by not getting enough exercise. Their arch-rivals, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine ( www.pcrm.org ), a group that promotes a rather radically vegan (eat no meat or anything derived from animals - such as milk or cheese or eggs) viewpoint has been notably silent about this so far, but we suspect that there will be some equally shrill rhetoric coming from them to counter the CFCF's gloating.
Folks, let's get serious. If you simply look around you, (or maybe in the mirror) you can plainly see that America is The Land of The Free, and The Home of The Plump. Too many of us are carrying too much extra weight. Our common sense tells us how we got this way: too much eating, and not enough exercising. Whether 400,000 of us, or only 25,000 of us will die from this each year, either number, or any number in between is a tragedy. The suffering that overweight causes is a tragedy. The diabetes, the cardiovascular problems, the respiratory problems, the joint problems, all rob years from our lives, and worse, rob life from our years.
Perhaps you want to believe the The Center For Consumer Freedom who advocate the "freedom" to dine on burgers and fries and donuts for desert, or believe the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine who would have us munching on tofu and bean sprouts, or maybe you will chose a more moderate and balanced path. We at the Wellness Club believe that Dr. Myatt's The Super Fast Diet represents a healthful way to lose weight quickly. It restores deep nutrition, corrects hormonal imbalances, provides a way to boost metabolism with only 10 minutes of exercise a day, and oh yes, it will have you lose weight fast!
No matter what the rhetoric and political motivations of the groups at either end of this issue, most Americans are smart enough to know that being overweight isn't particularly healthy. We have help for those who want it.
Cheers, Nurse Mark
