Carnival concludes tomorrow evening with the traditional festivity called the burial of the sardine by his majesty the [base "]carnastoltes[per thou]
In Spain we have the tradition of burying the sardine on ash Wednesday. Such coincides with the beginning of the lent fasting and the end of the carnival.
It is a bit of a contradiction to bury a sardine as a symbol of not been able to eat meat for 40 days but from other resources I have read that originally this name of sardine was that given to a section of a pig that was buried.
I still have to find out how a pig turned into a sardine.
In Barcelona the biggest funeral where the carnival is mourned will be held in the areas of Horta . It starts at 5.30 pm at the street called Baixada de la Plana and finishes at Tajo street. The festivity will end with a huge meal where all attendants will be able to eat sardines.
Traditions can be fun and I suppose that[base ']s why they are traditions.
