My favorite DVD shop on Gao[base ']an Lu has closed down for renovation. Nothing special I thought, until I heard that a crackdown on DVD sellers will start this week. Suddenly it is very difficult to find DVDs in the city. Around my office there are a lot of DVD sellers in the narrow alleysways leading to the shikumen old neighbourhoods, but yesterday the only thing they were selling were socks and cheap toys. Crackdowns normally only last a few weeks, and then the police will focus on something else. That means the renovation will be finished by then. I still have many DVDs that I never watched, so it is no big deal. Probably will not have much time to watch anyway, and also the warm summer weather does not make me feel like watching a movie. I prefer a cold Tsingtao on my balcony or on the terrace of one of the many bars around town [^] Cheers!
