Microsoft Is Podcasting. . .My Buzzcast. . .
As anyone who's listened to a few of these podcasts since October 2004 knows, I work for Microsoft. What some may not know is that podcasting is actually part of my job. I guess that makes me a "professional" podcaster, eh?
It doesn't mean the Manic Minute is a Microsoft podcast, far from it. What it does mean is that I get to do podcasting and get paid for it. My first public corporate podcast was posted today at http://channel9.msdn.com/pdc. Click on the Podcasts tab. (Direct URL: http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=74833)
I'm doing a weekly series of shows that will highlight speakers and events for the upcoming Microsoft Professional Developer's Conference which will be held in Los Angeles, September 13th through the 16th. It's called the Buzzcast and it was great fun composing new music for the show and recording it on the company nickel.
And on another note. . .
Sub Pop Records, home of bands like Nirvana, Afghan Whigs, Combustible Edison, The Reverend Horton Heat, Sleater-Kinney and Soundgarden, has announced that they are encouraging podcasters to use their promotional tracks within podcasts.
I just love the way they give permission: "You may incorporate any of the songs that are freely available as MP3s in the multimedia section of this website into your podcasts. HOWEVER, we do reserve the right to change our mind about the availability of any song for any reason at any time. Fickle, no?"
Podcast of the day. . .
BMI Songwriters Podcasting
http://music.bmi.com/podcast/200505/podcast.rss
A monthly show featuring BMI member songwriters. BMI is one of the 3 music "collection agencies" called performing rights organizations that collect payments from people who play commercial music (bars, radio stations, etc.) for songwriters and publishers. One I particularly liked was Brendan James's "Let Your Beat (go on forever)".
Manic Minute Recommendation: Good music for free, I'm digging it!
And that's your Manic Minute for May 24th, 2005!
