Dateline Orlando. . .
This week I'm at Microsoft's TechEd conference. It's quite a different experience doing a Microsoft conference as a Microsoft employee. In past years I've always thought all the people in the dark blue shirts were either marketing folks or one of the ubiquitous "Program Managers" that seemed to be everywhere at Microsoft.
I'm delighted to tell you that I was quite wrong! Most of the people are actually people who build Microsoft's products. True, there are many program managers (they're nice people!) but you're quite a bit more likely to talk to a developer who wrote your favorite feature as you are to talk to a program manager and almost never will you meet a marketing person!
Kennedy Space Center. . .
I took a short side trip (at my own expense, mind you) to the Kennedy Space Center this morning. I've been quite the space nut since I was a small child in the late 1950's and early 1960's. I once sent in a suggestion to NASA and received one of my most prized possessions in return: an actual Apollo 11 flight plan!
I've always imagined Cape Canaveral/KSC to be much smaller than it actually is. . .it's huge! The video on the tour bus that the complex is either 1/5th the size of Rhode Island or 5 times (I can't remember which) but in any case it's huge!!! If you ever get the chance, go, it is awesome!
Podcast of the day. . .
The public radio station from San Diego, California, where I first made the acquaintance of the west coast, lo those many years ago, is podcasting!
I particularly like "A Way With Words". Head on over to http://www.kpbs.org
