Had a great weekend with the family.
Last Friday's drive was spent going up to Menasha, WI and back to the Oak Creek drop yard. Then I spent 3 and 1/4 hours waiting for my next assignment which was back up near where I had just come. I took an empty trailer up to the drop yard in Kaukauna and then picked up a loaded trailer there and took it back to the Oak Creek drop yard. It snowed (mostly flurries) all the way back to Milwaukee. After my wife picked me up, the brunt of the storm moved in. By the time it stopped snowing Saturday, the Milwaukee area had received 1-foot of snow. Good thing I made it back Friday night!
Today my wife dropped me off early (my car should be repaired by tomorrow) and I bob-tailed up to Menasha to pick up my loaded trailer. Only they bumped my ETA up to 7:00 AM (delivery to southern Georgia on the 26th). I politely informed after-hours dispatch that was a no-go. He said to pick up the trailer anyway and start the journey and check in with my fleet manager as early as possible.
So I picked up the trailer and notified Mr. K. of the situation. He bumped the ETA to 16:00 on the 26th. I fueled up at the terminal in Gary, IN. That's when the driver side door stopped working. The inside latch mechanism broke (good thing I was at a terminal--otherwise I'd be entering/exiting the truck through the passenger door until my next routed terminal maintenance stop). So, Mr. K pushed back the ETA to 23:59 on the 26th.
Well, I waited over 7-hours for maintenance to fix the door. At 8:00 PM I resumed my journey towards Georgia. I stopped driving at 1:00 AM in the morning (I found a parking spot after entering my 3rd truck stop). After calculating how many miles I had left to go, I figured I would not make the midnight ETA Wednesday night. After-hours dispatch said for me to call Mr. K by 8:00 AM. Great, I'll interrupt my sleep pattern just to see what they are going to do with the load (either keep me on it or have someone else relay it to the destination to meet the ETA). In any event, I won't be able to start driving again until 11:00 AM.
Tomorrow should be interesting.
