This early morning's route involved 3-stops in the greater Chicago, IL area. Everything went smoothly (outside of the patchy morning fog in the Chicago outlying suburbs)--as well as can be expected with the temperature climbing into the 90's again. The next 3-days will be hot, humid, and hazy. The water parks around the country must be doing a brisk business!
Somewhere in the midst of my route, I received my next assignment--3-stops in Iowa for tomorrow. So, after returning to the warehouse, I hooked onto a new trailer and headed for Dubuque, IA. I made it there in time for my 10-hour break before my first appointment in the morning (after taking a 2-hour split log break before reaching Dubuque). Even at 7:00 PM, sweat didn't take long to break out as I did my post-trip inspection. I'm so glad my truck air conditioner is working!
My last stop tomorrow is somewhat near the Minnesota / South Dakota border. There I'll turn around and perhaps make it back to Dubuque before calling it a day.
My wife's dad ended up having a pace-maker put it Sunday afternoon. We saw him in the morning and he looked good--he did not have a stroke (but perhaps a very mild heart attack). The pace-maker procedure went well and he seems to be doing good (per my wife's voicemail message). Saturday, the family attended Germanfest in Milwaukee, WI -- the largest 3-day German festival in the United States. Our kids marched in the parade. It was a good time (I also ran into Mr. J -- the company's night dispatcher entering into the festival grounds). If you ever get the chance to attend the big lakefront festival in Milwaukee (Summerfest) or any of the ethic festivals in Milwaukee (on the SummerFest grounds), by all means go! You won't be disappointed. After GermanFest, to end the day, we headed to my folks for a family birthday party. Today I got stuffed on some good German food as well as some great home cookin'. What more could you ask for?!
