Wacom debuts wireless Graphire tablet
A picture named wacomwireless.jpg

About a week ago, I wrote a piece here acknowledging my new fondness for the Wacom Intuos, where I made the comment: "I'm really looking forward to the day when the tablet goes wireless and we no longer have to contend with being tethered to the nearest USB port.". I'm really impressed that within just a few days, the folks at Wacom had read my blog and completely designed a new product solely based on my comment - thanks guys! :-) (Don't we all just wish it worked that way!)

Today Wacom debuts their very first wireless tablet which I think is a fantastic first step. I'm anxiously awaiting this technology to make it into their higher end Intuos line of products as I personally don't care so much for the Graphire line of products now that I've been using the Intuos but kudos to Wacom for taking that first step. I think (as with with most things) if people had a chance to sit down and get past that initial "it's not a mouse" impression, they would really enjoy using a tablet. In fact, the only real interest that I have these days in most PC hardware is in the advancements being made with the Tablet PC.

"Wacom Technology today introduced a new version of its Graphire pen tablet that incorporates Bluetooth wireless technology. The new model, named Graphire Bluetooth, allows users to use the tablet up to 30 feet away from their computer. It's available with a 6" x 8" active area for US$249.99. "A Winning Combination Wacom's patented cordless, battery-free pen technology works harmoniously with Bluetooth wireless technology to create a leading-edge environment for digital imaging fun. The Wacom pen looks and feels like a regular pen and operates without batteries or cords. Additionally, with 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, a Wacom Graphire pen provides a natural and controlled way to retouch and edit digital photos and create original art. A built-in eraser even makes it easy to quickly fix mistakes."
