Show #65: An Evening of Spoken Word and Friendship
This near to Christmas show features spoken word poetry recorded at a recent gathering at Budd Hall and Darlene Clover's place. I've mixed the poetry with music by The Brian Jonestown Massacre a San Fransisco neo-psychedelic band that makes music reminiscent of the late 60's era. All music in the podcast is available from the BJM's website in the form of a zip archive that expands into Ogg Vorbis files. Plug-ins from the OV site allow you to play these in iTunes.
Thank you to the poets who were brave enough to pick up the microphone and let their work be podcast over Islandpodcasting. My apologies to those whose readings did not get put into this edition of the show. I had much more material than would fit into a single podcast, so I will have to follow-up with another edition. Thanks also to the Brian Jonestown Massacre for the use of their music in this podcast.
For those interested in the band, the documentary film Dig! presents a gritty portrait of the BJM and the Dandy Warhols as filmed over a seven year period. Band leader Anton Newcombe has issued a disclaimer about the film claiming it misrepresents his art and identity. The film is now available for rent as a DVD. It's fascinating viewing, and is narrated by Courtney Taylor of the Dandy Warhols.
